Saint Mary's College of California will reduce its energy consumption by 71 kW under its new energy conservation program. Key measures: more energy-efficient HVAC units and lighting fixtures, electrical sub-metering on 31 campus buildings, computer management software, and electronic digital HVAC control systems. Associated educational programs will increase campus awareness of energy usage and stimulate conservation activities. The energy savings will pay for the $2.7 million-dollar project in about 8 years. California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer approved $75 million in tax-exempt bond financing for the conservation projects on July 26th, 2007. "Saint Mary's has made an impressive commitment to the environment", Lockyer said in a press release announcing the bond approval. |
