Contra Costa County Offers Incentives for Carpools.

     The EPA has found that each year, the average car causes over 600 pounds of air pollution. Motor vehicle exhaust contributes about 60 percent of all carbon monoxide emissions nationwide.

     Here’s a quick, easy, mathematically elegant way to eliminate rush hour and cut auto exhaust emissions by 50 percent: Put two commuters in a car instead of one. Besides doing everybody’s lungs and blood pressure a favor, carpooling commuters save gas and cash; can be relieved of daily driving chores; meet new people; catch up on reading; and witness democracy in action when riders debate the choice of radio station.

   1) Carpool to campus and receive $60 in gas cards.  511 Contra Costa is offering $60.00 worth of gas cards to encourage you to form a carpool to work instead of driving alone. All you have to do is form a new carpool with two or more people, or add a new member to an existing two-person carpool. To learn more, go to: http://www.511contracosta.org/carpool.html.

   2) To find Saint Mary's drivers or riders who are interested in forming carpools, click on http://smcnet.stmarys-ca.edu/discussion/viewforum.php?f=4.  After you log in, scroll down to the "SMC Carpooling" Forum. This message board is similar to the one used in BlackBoard and many other sites. Use it to post your information and email others who meet your carpooling needs.  

  If you are a driver looking for passengers to ride with you:

First, click the “rides needed” link and review existing posts to see if someone meets your needs. If you find a possible connection, click that person’s “email” icon to post a reply.

If not, click the “passengers needed” icon, then the “new topic” icon, and post a message describing your location and schedule. It will be added to the message board for riders to see.

 If you are a passenger looking for someone to drive you:
